Senior Tooling Engineer

The Challenge

The Senior Tooling Engineer will be a member of the Dishwasher metal stamping operations team. This team owns the daily production of all metal components for the Dishwasher Business. The Senior Tooling Engineer will be responsible for managing tooling and metal stamping equipment PMs, maintenance and improvement projects. The Senior Tooling Engineer will support the operations team by owning the technical tooling and equipment piece of meeting all Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost goals.

What you will Do

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Maintain tooling PM system through Purchase service company Millennium Tool Inc.

  • Manage Red Tag / Green Tag Procedure.

  • Ensure tools are production ready based on Production requirements and meet fit, function, and quality requirements.

  • Purchase spare and perishable die details and manage inventories.

  • Responsible for both in-house and out sourced tooling repairs.

  • Manage internal and external Engineering Changes with GE Tooling AME’s.

  • Support GE Tooling AME and external tool shops related to new tool builds and the associated in-house qualification process.

  • Ensure all stamping processes meet press requirements related to set up, scrap fall, scrap exit, die protection sensors, OEE requirements.

  • Perform advanced troubleshooting of issues that cause tooling and stamping process failures/downtime.

  • Drive and support all TPM Initiatives associated with stamping.

Standards and Compliance:

  • Ensure all tooling and equipment executed in GEA factories comply with Industry and Governmental Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) standards.

  • Own and drive resolution to stamping safety concerns.

  • Complete all training and inspections as assigned.

Cross-functional Work and Leadership:

  • Support MCTO and Quality projects associated with tooling and material changes.

  • Support material flow and workstation layouts as it pertains to new stampings.

What you need to Succeed

Position Requirement:

  • Minimum five years manufacturing experience in metal stamping.

  • Technical degree, tooling apprenticeship or equivalent experience.

  • Significant hands on experience in manufacturing equipment including specification and procurement of dies

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in progressive dies and transfers.

  • Demonstrated project management skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment with both salaried and hourly personnel to meet the needs of the operators, operations team and the business.

  • Significant experience in manufacturing plant environment.

  • Computer literate and skilled in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Auto Cad and Outlook.

  • Willing and able to travel if needed on a minimal basis

  • Knowledge of how presses function and how to set them up

  • Understanding of OSHA and plant safety standards as they relate to presses and assure compliance.

  • Experience with multiple fabrication equipment, sheet metal tooling (progressive, transfer & manual dies), die change systems, and associated processes including transfer motion.

  • Understanding of Lean manufacturing principles

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering

  • Experience with implementing Lean process improvement in a manufacturing operation

  • Six Sigma Certification

  • Familiarity in 3D CAD (ProE, Solidworks, Creo or equivalent)

Working Conditions:

  • Working conditions are normal for a high volume manufacturing environment.

  • Work may involve lifting of materials and product up to 30 pounds and working in and around heavy equipment.

  • Working in this environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protection, safety boots, gloves and arm guards.

  • The role will require frequent walking in a manufacturing plant environment.

  • Hours & Weekends: Working off-shift and weekends will be required at a minimal frequency.

  • Travel will be required at a minimal frequency.
